Top Colorado Town For All Around Sportsman

Granite, Colorado - Granite is not well known by many people, not even in Colorado; however, the mass of attractions around it do garner a lot of attention. Granite is in between Leadville and Buena Vista in Southern Colorado. It is sourrounded my the Collegiate Mountain Range which is home to some of the highest mountains in North America and the highest mountain in Colorado, Mount Massive. The reason why Granite is for all aound sportsman is because theres not much you can't do within short driving range of the town. The Arkansas River runs right the town and turns into the Granite Canyon which is great for fly fishing as well as rafting the class 3 and 4 level rapids. Their is always a lot of hunting opportunities nearby as well with many challenging species of game such as elk, deer, pronghorn, big horn sheep, bears, moose and mountain lions. Not to mention the vast small game populations of grouse, mountain turkeys, rabbits, squirrels, coyotes, chuckar, ducks and geese. The region is also home to a small portion of introduced protected animals such as the lynx and the wolf. Within a couple minutes of Granite is Clear Creek Reservoir, a large body of water that feeds into the Arkansas River from the mountains and is great for fishing as well as camping the close by hills. Granite is also within an hour of the ski resorts of Copper Mountain and Monarch seeted high in the Rocky Mountains. Overall, as a midwest sportsman its hard not to stay busy when staying near Granite.
Mountain Bike Towns

Fruita, Colorado - Fruita is by far one of the best mountain bike locations in all of Colorado. The town is situated in West Central Colorado very near the Utah border and shares many of the geographic characteristics that Utah and the Canyon lands have. Utah will always be king of mountain biking locations but Fruita isn't far behind. You need only drive a few minutes outside of the city limits to experience hundreds of miles of mountain bike trails near Fruita. The red dirt and endless canyons makes the area ideal for mountain biking and the climate cant be beat during the summer months.

Moab, Utah - Every major mountain bike enthusiast in the Western United States has at some time heard of or been to the canyon lands of Moab, Utah and for good reason. Moab is in the Eastern part of Utah in what is considered amazing terrain for mountain biking. Coincidentally the best land for riding mountain bikes is also in my opinion some of the most beautiful land in the world. The red desert cliffs and canyons seem to go on forever in what looks like a play ground for mountain bikers and beauty seekers.

Top US Sports Towns

College Station, Texas - College Station is home to Texas A&M University and has a rich history of athletics. The town greatly supports all of the colleges dominant D1 sports teams and is greatly feared when it comes to competing in the hyped up city. Texas A&M is in the South Eastern Conference of SEC and has a big reputation for being the best and hardest conference in all of college athletics. You cant walk down the streets of College Station on game day without seeing hundreds of people outside ready to support their Aggies.

Lincoln, Nebraska - Lincoln is not known for many things other than the support for college sports and specifically the University of Nebraska. The fans in Lincoln have sold out memorial stadium for something like 36 years straight. If your ever in Lincoln you will find it hard to see many people wearing anything other than the school colors of red and white especially on game day. Although football is definitely the favored sport in the town and much of Nebraska, the towns seems to go out of their way to support any of the sports offered at the University even if the team lacks success.

Small Towns for the Upland Game Bird Hunter

Bridgeport, Nebraska - Bridgeport like many towns in the plains is very tiny and great for upland game hunting. It has but a few hundred houses in the entire town but several lodges nearby perfect the weekend hunting trip. Near the South Platte River and a popular waterfowl flyway the land is pleasantly fertile considering being in the large flat state of Nebraska. Although many people come to Bridgeport for the pheasants, doves and quail it is perhaps as good of place to set up a ground blind and try your luck for geese, ducks or in the spring the large turkey population.

Fleming, Colorado - Out in the eastern plaines of Colorado is the small sleepy town of Fleming. To my knowledge Fleming has but one restaurant and one gas station in the whole town; however, that is all they really need. The community is very tightly knit and a neat place to stay in with the family. The hunting areas around Fleming thrive with upland game birds and the county bags more birds than most any of the sourrounding counties. Flemming is also largely public land and actually provides miles and miles of open space in which hunters are welcome without reservations.
Great Outdoor Retirement Towns
Cape Coral, Florida - Cape Coral is near the Gulf of Mexico and is known as a mecca for water-lovers. It has a gentle climate and atmoshere which is perfect for the hardworking couple to live out the rest of their days or to hang out for a warm winter. Cape Coral is sourrounded by over 400 miles of canals and near the ocean for great exposure for sailing.

Boise, Idaho - Boise is an excellent place for the elderly to retire despite what most would think. The town actually offers a wide variety of art and music for any artistic lover and certainly adds a touch to the large mountain city. For those that are still alright on their feet, Boise is near many trout rivers that provide a great recreation for a retiree. Surprisingly Boise also has one of the lowest crime rates for big cities in the Country making it a very safe enviorenment.

Albuquerqe, New Mexico - Having relatives retired in Albuquerqe I know first hand how nice of place it can be to retire (especially for the more middle class people). There is fairly high levels of crime in some parts of the city but their are many secluded areas perfect for a  retirement atmosphere. The Sandia Peaks East of town are greating for hiking and getting out of the hear for the retired people. The Colorado River also flows though the middle of town and is great for recreation. last the town has a great climate practically year round.

Best Colorado Ski Towns
Telluride, Colorado- Telluride is known for its snow and skiing but it is just just because of the physical terain. Telluride is an old lively town with tons of history and soul that makes for a wonderful atmosphere. The main street is much like that of the other historic towns in Colorado like Leadville, Fort Collins or Golden and always has something going on. The ski areas of Telluride are constantly renovating and trying to grow to prove itself as one of the better ski towns in the United States. Some say it is hard to get to the slopes of Telluride but I can assure anyone that it is well worth it.

Vail, Colorado  - Vail is notorious as one of the premier ski areas in Colorado and the Nation. Both Telluride and Vail ranked in the top 5 in Forbes report on the top Ski areas in America. Beaver Creek resort in Vail is hard to rival especially due to the high elevations and frequent snow fall. The ski area and city are generally very expensive for the average person so it is definitley a treat to be able to shred the high mountain powder.

Ideal Warm Weather Outdoors Towns

Corpus Christi, Texas - The location of Corpus Christi in relation to the Gulf of Mexico and the animal rich sanctuaries inland provide something for any kind of outdoorsman. The city is known for being one of the birdiest cities in the United States and has become very poular for  bird watchers or hunters taking advantage of the thousands of migrating waterfowl every year. Off shore fishing is a common activity for the people of East Texas and is of no lack in Corpus Christi. When you move west of the gulf hunting becomes great for the native populations of deer, doves, boar and javelinas.

Santa Barbara, California - Santa Barbara is a classic warm weather location. It has a large amount of beautiful beachfront and coastal attractions. If your looking for a nice vacation spot to spend a few days on the beach and unwind from life then look no further. If you want to get away from the beach for a while Santa Barbara also is home to over 57 parks and hundreds of achers of public land for a great time.
