Top Colorado Town For All Around Sportsman

Granite, Colorado - Granite is not well known by many people, not even in Colorado; however, the mass of attractions around it do garner a lot of attention. Granite is in between Leadville and Buena Vista in Southern Colorado. It is sourrounded my the Collegiate Mountain Range which is home to some of the highest mountains in North America and the highest mountain in Colorado, Mount Massive. The reason why Granite is for all aound sportsman is because theres not much you can't do within short driving range of the town. The Arkansas River runs right the town and turns into the Granite Canyon which is great for fly fishing as well as rafting the class 3 and 4 level rapids. Their is always a lot of hunting opportunities nearby as well with many challenging species of game such as elk, deer, pronghorn, big horn sheep, bears, moose and mountain lions. Not to mention the vast small game populations of grouse, mountain turkeys, rabbits, squirrels, coyotes, chuckar, ducks and geese. The region is also home to a small portion of introduced protected animals such as the lynx and the wolf. Within a couple minutes of Granite is Clear Creek Reservoir, a large body of water that feeds into the Arkansas River from the mountains and is great for fishing as well as camping the close by hills. Granite is also within an hour of the ski resorts of Copper Mountain and Monarch seeted high in the Rocky Mountains. Overall, as a midwest sportsman its hard not to stay busy when staying near Granite.
